There, that's more like it

I love these guys!

What a contentious game! It was tied at zilch for over half the game, then the Red Sox scored a run. Then Carlos Pena hit a home run and the game was tied again. We get to the 9th inning, still tied at 1, we hold off Boston and we get to bat. Bottom of the 9th, bases loaded, 1 out, and Dioner Navarro hits it almost over the back wall, for what would have been at least a double if the game hadn't ended as soon as they scored. So the Rays win and are back in first in the AL east! Hopefully tomorrow night's game will be just as good.

Getting my hair cut and highlighted for the first time in ages. I'll have them chop off at least 6 inches. I hope to get out of there in under 4 hours, we shall see things go.

I should have gone to work

An interesting thing about being a floor nurse is that when the census is low, they call and tell you not to come to work. At my job we keep track of whose turn it is to be 'canceled' next. You can also request 'first cancel'. I did that today so I could go to the baseball game, and since we were low, I got the day off. This is good when it happens sporadically, as extra days off here and there are nice. Unfortunately, you don't get paid when you don't work.

Sadly, it was probably the worst game ever. One of our best pitchers started off on the wrong foot. Walked the first 2 batters on 8 pitches, and the next got a home run. I think it was the 2nd or 3rd inning when we got a home run, so the score was 4-1. A glimmer of hope quickly faded as the Red Sox then scored several more times. We actually didn't get to the stadium until the second inning, and we left after the 4th or 5th when the score was 12-1. It was that bad. But a loss is a loss, no matter how brutal, and hopefully the Rays will recover for tomorrow's (well, today's actually) game and get the win.

I'm a night owl. I work 2nd shift (3p-11p), and I really enjoy it. The only thing that would be better is if I could work 3p-3a and then only work 3 days a week. I hate mornings. So I'm kind of dreading the drive to Atlanta on Friday since Mark wants to get there before rush hour. With an 8 hour drive, that means we need to leave around 7. Oh great, that puts us in rush hour here. Though there's really no comparing Tampa to Atlanta rush hour. Anyway, I'm contemplating leaving after work on Thursday night, driving to Valdosta, hoteling it, then making our way up to the ATL by 3. If it was just me and Mark, we definitely would be doing that, but friends are coming too so I'm going to allow their input. I'm antsy to bid on Priceline for our hotel room though. I love bidding on Priceline. There's kind of a science to it, and there are lists out there of all the different hotels at each star level in each area so you aren't bidding blind. It's fun to enter your bid then wait for the response.

I'm down about 15 pounds in 2 weeks. I suppose that's the one good thing of needing to lose a massive amount of weight - when you first start out (or restart for the 87th time), it does come off quickly. The problem is when it slows down and there's no momentum keeping you going, and pizza starts calling my name. I'm powering through!

It starts

Going to try my hand at this blogging thing. Welcome to my life.

Right now I'm just working. I finished my BSN in December so I've been out of school for 9 months. I'm an OB nurse and take care of pregnant women, new moms and babies. I plan on going back for my masters eventually, but things are kind of up in the air right now. Husband should finish his MA in the spring, and my parents are pretty ready to leave Florida in the next couple of years. There's not much holding us here and we'll move somewhere (maybe North Carolina) as a family (different houses, please). So I don't really want to start my MSN here in 2009 if we're going to move in 2010.

So for now it's standard stuff. I go to work. I come home. I go to Target, the gym, the movies. Lather, rinse, repeat. We plan little vacations because I need things to look forward to in the very near future. I'm terribly impatient. On the 19th we're going to Atlanta. Mark (the husband) is super cool and therefore going to Anime Weekend Atlanta. Before that though, the Rays play Boston 3 times this week, and we'll be there, hopefully watching them make history.

My blog title is from 30 Rock, one of the best shows ever. I highly recommend it!
